I hope everyone had a nice weekend! I’ve been busy behind the scenes here at Phogropathy working towards bringing a new design to the website. It’s not a drastic change, but more of a fine tuning of the current design. I’m hoping to have it completed by April – Stay tuned!
Daily Photo – In Flight
This weekend I put myself outside my comfort zone by going to Stony Brook with only my 55-300mm telephoto zoom. I don’t have a lot of experience in that focal range, and I have even less experience trying to photograph wildlife, but I wanted to give it a shot and see what I could come up with.
While overall, I’m not all that impressed with the results, I did learn a lot and I’m looking forward to giving this experiment another try. One hinderance I can see is that this 55-300mm is not idea for wildlife photography. Sure you have a nice 300mm zoom, but oh man is it slow to focus! If your subject is flying through the sky it’s gonna take some luck to get it it focus from what I can tell.
That being said I’d like to go out when it’s a bit brighter as I was shooting at around 1000 ISO for these shots in order to keep the shutter speed up around 1/500th of a second. If I had a bit more like I think I might have had some better luck.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great day.
