Sunrise at the Dock

Monday mornings are never easy, but when you’ve only got a two day work week it does lessen the sting a bit.

For several weeks I’ve been setting my alarm for early Sunday morning in order to get up and capture a sunrise photo. Every week that alarm would sound and, of course, I’d silence it and roll over and go back to sleep only to awake long after the sun had broken the horizon. However, yesterday morning was different. Without an alarm set, I was up and out of my house before six. It’s so peaceful that early on Sunday morning, there’s almost no one around, the birds are out, and the sun rise was beautiful.

I’d been researching locations using Google Earth and I even went to scout this spot out one afternoon using my iPhone’s compass to get a general idea of where the sun would be rising. What kinds of scouting research do you do before heading to a location? Or maybe you just wing it? Let me know!

I hope you ‘like’ the photo! Please consider sharing it on Facebook or Twitter. As always many thanks for taking the time to stop into Phogropathy.com.

  1. love this!! beautiful… desktopbackground!?!

  2. You need to get the App “lighttrack”. I can’t remember the exact spelling, but it will give you time, angle, and direction of the sun anytime of day. Moon also. Really cool stuff. Glad you got out to shoot this one! Its def a keeper!!

  3. You had much better luck than I did this weekend. I went out (had to wake my kids up to go with me) and found that the spot that I wanted to shoot from was closed for the season, drove up the mountain further and just too cloudy to get anything exciting. But on the way home I stopped off at a boat ramp for a nearby lake, and came up with a decent shot.

I use an app called “Sun Seaker Lite” that shows the direction of the sun at every hour of the day.

  4. oh wow man! this one is amazing!

  5. That was worth getting up for! Lovely lead-in with the jetty and a beautiful sky
