Yesterday’s photo, She was Cold, But Warm With Dedication, was extremely popular and so I thought I’d share one more of my favorites from that series.
The Edge of the Dock
As I mentioned yesterday this shoot was one of the most difficult that I’ve had to do. The wind was strong, the snow was cold, and it was only about to get worse.
For this shot I had Alycia walk out to the edge of the dock and stand there just looking off into the horizon as if she was contemplating jumping into the frozen lake. I think it’s a very cool contrast in elements of summer and winter of color and the absence of color – I hope you like it.
Thanks for visiting Phogropathy – I hope you’ve enjoyed the snow shoot series – I may post a couple more in a week or so – stay tuned!

Cool shot! Definitely a good contrast going on there.
I really like the bright red dress, and I agree, the fact that it so obviously out of place makes it even more interesting than the color contrast itself. I think I would have tried to get down lower and take the photo with her filling more of the frame. My only concern would be that without the angle of view, the dock would disappear as layers of white on white. Maybe something closer to the angle of your Dock at Sunrise photo would have worked though. It’s a beautiful scene (as is Dock at Sunrise). I’m in the Boston area myself. Do you mind sharing where you took them?
Hi Noah thanks for the comment. I do agree that different angles might have worked better. It’s a tricky dock because it’s not level (the right side is higher than the left) and on top of that I really couldn’t sit and check every shot due to the conditions. I mean poor Alycia was getting closer and closer to freezing her arms and legs off with every passing second. Regardless it was a great learning experience and I’ll definitely have so much more knowledge going into it in the future the next time I can convince someone to put next to nothing on in a blizzard and pose for me.
As to your question the photos are taken in Uxbridge MA along the Blackstone River Canal. It’s a beautiful area and I’m fortunate to have it so close to my home.
